Dear Highwood Families,
As the weather is warming up, just a reminder to dress your child in layers. It can be a bit chilly in the morning but very hot in the afternoon! Please label all of your child’s clothing items so we can return them when they are left outside. We also ask that students wear appropriate outdoor shoes (not sandals and flip-flops) to ensure safety on the playground when they are outside for recess and outdoor gym.
Here are a few reminders for the month of May:
- 2023-2024 Fees- please pay
- Inform the school of any change to personal information
- Bus Driver Appreciation Day (May 6)
- Discontinuation of the milk program starting August 2024
- Discontinuation of Reading A-Z
- Important May dates
2023-2024 Fees - Please Pay
In your PowerSchool account, you will see any 2023-2024 school fees that haven’t been paid yet. All students that have stayed for lunch at school will be charged a Lunchroom fee. This is a CBE fee that is given to the school to pay for supervisors to look after students while they eat their lunch. There may also be fieldtrip fees that are posted. Please pay all fees online as soon as possible. We ask that you continue to check for newly posted fees as we post them after your child has completed a fieldtrip for more accurate pricing.
Inform the school of any changes to personal information
It is extremely important that the school has the most current information as possible. If you’ve changed your home address, cell phone number, work phone number, or emergency contact people, please let us know immediately. It is also important for us to know about any changes to health information (i.e. allergies; medications) and legal matters (i.e. custody agreements; restraining orders).
Bus Driver Appreciation Day (May 6)
Monday, May 6 is bus driver appreciation day. Please take the time to show your gratitude to your child’s bus driver on May 6, but also all year long. They have a very tough and important job trying to ensure that your child gets to and from school every day in a timely but safe way… which is extremely difficult during the winter months! There have been school bus driver shortages throughout the CBE all year long, so we are grateful that most of our dedicated drivers have been with us for such a long time. They truly care for your child and their well-being! Some even take the time to attend our LNY concert!
Discontinuation of the Milk Program starting August 2024
Starting August 2024, we will discontinue our milk program. The cost of milk continues to rise and increases have occurred at least twice a year for the last few years. Although we do not make money on the milk program, we believe that the cost of milk from our approved vendor has become unreasonable. Families can buy the exact same milk at the grocery store at a more reasonable price. We have ordered enough milk to continue to sell it to students for the remainder of the school year but will stop selling MILK CARDS on May 27. Chocolate and white milk will still be available to students until June 27.
Discontinuation of Reading A-Z
Currently all Grade 1 and 2 students have access to the English online reading program Reading A-Z. Our subscription will end at the end of June and will not be continued. We are currently looking into other reading programs and will try to have something in place for September.
