One more month left of school but it’s a really busy one!
We wanted to express our gratitude to all of the Highwood families who volunteered this year. Thank you for giving up your valuable time to attend off-site fieldtrips, help out in the classroom, make props for our LNY concert, completing teacher tasks at home, participating in School Council and the countless other ways you support Highwood School. Feel proud that your contributions have helped to make this a memorable and successful school year.
As there are still a few fieldtrips in the month of June, we know that many parents are eager to volunteer on fieldtrips. For safety and organizational reasons, we ask that you attend fieldtrips ONLY if you have signed up to be a volunteer. Please do not meet the class at their destination without the teacher’s knowledge.

URGENT: Register for Bus Transportation!
The deadline to register for the yellow school bus for the 2025-2026 school year is JUNE 22. Please register for the bus even if you are unsure if your child will be needing it or not. IT IS MUCH EASIER TO CANCEL YOUR REGISTRATION THAN TO ADD IT AFTER JUNE 16. It will cost you nothing to register and you have until the fall to cancel without a fee. To register, please go to your MyCBE account. Do not wait until the evening of June 21 to register because there is always the possibility that you encounter some problems and at that time, we are unable to help you. If you require help, call the school office at 403-777-6200 during school days/hours. Note that we are unable to register for you.
Going to the Next Grade and Classroom Placement
All Highwood students are automatically enrolled into the next grade for the 2025-2026 school year. If your child will not be attending Highwood in 2025-2026, please let the office know immediately. If your child is currently in grade 4, they will be automatically enrolled into grade 5 at Colonel Irvine School.
Classroom placement is something we take very seriously and take a lot of time and care to put together. Understand that teachers work on class lists in collaboration with each other, with specialists/ strategists that work with certain students, as well as with our music and gym teachers to try to find a combination of students that will work well with each other to learn and grow both academically and socially. Our priority is ensure that every student is placed with a group of peers and teachers who we feel will provide them with the best learning environment. We look at and relook at classroom placements multiple times before they are finalized, so we do not make these decisions lightly. This sometimes means that best friends are separated and you may not get the teacher you were hoping for.
2025-2026 School Year Calendar
We are currently awaiting CBE’s approval for Highwood’s 2025-2026 school year calendar. Please check Highwood’s website regularly as we will be posting the approved calendar once it is available. The first day back to school is Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The first day of school for Monday/Wednesday kindergarten is Friday, September 5, 2025. If you will be away on an extended vacation and your child will be absent on the first day(s), please notify the school now.
School Development Plan
We have seen great gains in student oral production in Chinese and English while applying Zen Zodiac strategies to problem solve. The specific use of Neurolinguistic strategies with the guidance of a professor from the University of Calgary has impacted the way teachers have modeled and taught oral language production. We hope that these gains and strategies will transfer into next year when our School Development plan will focus on reading as related to Zen Zodiac strategies.
